Taking A Secure Leap Forward at Impress

Chatsworth, CA- Paul Marino is a firm believer in smart-growth strategies, and rarely turns down an opportunity to look at new technology that can give his company, Impress Communications, an extra edge. So, it should come as no surprise that Impress has just installed an advanced Xirrus 802.11n Wi-Fi Arrays network that improves productivity, reliability and security for this venerable Los Angeles commercial printer and integrated visual communications provider.

"Our success is based on constant innovation and early adoption of technology advancements, so it is critical for us to seek out and deploy the best products available," said Paul Marino, Executive Director at Impress Communications. "We were disappointed with traditional Wi-Fi access points because of their lack of bandwidth and throughput - transferring large art files wirelessly was impractical." The ability to improve productivity and assure reliability for clients and internal operations were foremost. Marino added, "To add to the greening of our operations, we needed a highly dependable network that could securely handle electronic job tickets, download customer art files, and integrate all the digital requirements of our equipment from CAD design tools to presses and bindery without even so much as a hiccup."

Impress' technology manager, Jeff Park, investigated the Xirrus product. Its stated advantages - broader bandwidth, greater coverage area, bonded technology, reliability and most of all, security - were strong drivers to make the change. "The system," says Park," really allows us to define and customize multiple levels of security, and it has proven to be very reliable with the benefit of lower power consumption."

Approaching its twentieth anniversary in 2009, Impress has marked a number of milestones in recent years: fully transforming itself as an all-inclusive resource for specialty printing and finishing, custom packaging, interactive and branding services; partnering with Komori to concept and build a first of its kind eight-color UV press; and integrating environmental strategies throughout every aspect of operations.

For Impress Communications, taking a chance with innovation is still an immensely rewarding journey.

About Xirrus:
Xirrus, the only Wi-Fi "Power-Play," manufactures the Wi-Fi Array® architecture that displaces both overlay Wi-Fi offerings and switched Ethernet to the desktop. The Wi-Fi Array integrates 4, 8, 12, 16, or 24 802.11abg+n radios coupled to a high-gain directional antenna system into a single device along with an onboard multi-gigabit switch, Wi-Fi controller, firewall, dedicated Wi-Fi threat sensor, and an embedded spectrum analyzer. The Wi-Fi Array provides more than enough bandwidth, security, and control to replace switched Ethernet to the desktop as the primary network connection. The Xirrus Wi-Fi Array delivers the most coverage, bandwidth, throughput, and support for more users on a per device and per system basis than anything else available on the market today - resulting in a solution that uses 75% fewer devices, cabling, switch ports, power, space, and installation time compared with any other offering. Xirrus is a privately-held company headquartered in Thousand Oaks, California.
